Women’s Refugee Commission Announces Support for We Belong Together Kids Caravan and Week of Action

Washington, DC – The Women’s Refugee Commission is proud to stand alongside our partners at National Domestic Workers Alliance, WeCount!, PowerU, the American Friends Service Committee, the Women’s March, #LoveArmy, MomsRising, FLIC, Make it Work and 40 children and youth to launch the We Belong Together Kids Caravan and Week of Action, which will call for an end to the trauma caused by family separation and deportation.

Today, April 10th, the youth will leave Miami on a bus journey to Washington, DC to call on elected officials to stand with kids in creating a welcoming country in which families do not have to fear being broken apart by deportation. Along the way, the children will share their message of love with cities and communities and show adults that, when kids stand together they are unbreakable.

On Thursday, April 13th the Kids Caravan will arrive in Washington, DC where they will bring their message to President Trump by creating an interlocking circle in front of the White House to demonstrate their unity and refusal to be divided. The Kids Caravan will then launch a Week of Action April 17th – 21st where kids across the country will gather in their schools, places of worship and outside elected officials’ offices to lift up the call to keep all families together and to stand up to hate.

All children deserve to live in a family, safe from fear that they will lose their parents to immigration detention and deportation. The Women’s Refugee Commission is honored to stand alongside the children leading the Kids Caravan, and children across the country, in calling for an end to immigration practices that are separating families and tearing them apart. The United States has always been a place where family values are respected. These children know this. Our lawmakers should too.”
