Women’s Refugee Commission Responds to Historic Political Change in Syria
As the Syrian people witness historic political change, the Women’s Refugee Commission urges all governments to reaffirm their commitments to the safety of Syrian refugees and asylum–seekers around the world.
While many Syrians are optimistic about a more peaceful future, the situation remains uncertain. Syrian refugees and asylum–seekers are closely watching the situation on the ground. We urge governments everywhere to prioritize the protection of displaced Syrians, including the millions of women and girls who remain at risk of gender-based violence, xenophobia, and economic exclusion.
The Syrian conflict has resulted in one of the largest displacement crises in the world, with over 12 million Syrians forcibly displaced during the past 13 years. Since 2013, WRC has led research and issued guidance to support the protection of Syrian women and girls as they navigated the uncertainty and trauma of displacement.
WRC extends its continued solidarity to the Syrian people and will continue to stand for the safety and dignity of displaced women and girls as they navigate the next chapter.
