U.S. Supreme Court Rules against Trump DACA Rescission

WASHINGTON, D.C. In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court this morning ruled against the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, a program begun under the Obama administration to protect noncitizens brought to the U.S. as children from deportation and allow them to work legally in the U.S.

In response, Michelle Brané, senior director of the Migrant Rights and Justice program at the Women’s Refugee Commission, issued the following statement:

“Today, we celebrate the victory of and for the countless DREAMers and other advocates who persevered against the Trump administration’s relentless, reckless, and cruel attack on justice. Today’s decision does not eliminate the need for immediate, bipartisan Congressional action to ensure permanent protections and a path to citizenship for the hundreds of thousands of DREAMers who call the United States home.

“We applaud the work of all those who fought for the relief today’s ruling provides. WRC stands firmly with DREAMers and their families everywhere.”
