Leah Chavla, who works on migrant rights and justice issues for the Women’s Refugee Commission, said her organization has fielded heartbreaking accounts about the government’s hotlines, which put the onus on immigrant parents to find their children.
“It’s extremely cruel and it’s all in the name of deterrence,” she said.
