94 Organizations Urge US, Mexico, and Canada to Center Human Rights, Protection, and Access to Asylum in the North American Leaders Summit
PublishedAhead of the North American Leaders Summit (NALS) in Mexico City, Women’s Refugee Commission joined 93 civil society organizations from the US, Canada, and Latin America in urging US President Joe Biden, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to center human rights, humanitarian protection, and access to asylum for individuals fleeing persecution in discussions regarding regional migration. NALS provides an opportune forum for the US, Mexico, and Canada to work together to fulfill the commitment made in the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection to “protecting the safety and dignity of all migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons, regardless of their migratory status, and respecting their human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
