In January 2008, the Women's Commission visited Nepal to assess livelihood projects.

A delegation team traveled to Thailand from June 22 to July 3,2006, to assess current livelihood programs targeting refugee women and youth and to learn about emerging opportunities due to lifting of some Thai government restrictions on the ability of refugees to participate in livelihood activities.

This guidance document highlights general action and specific recommendations for humanitarian assistance practitioners engaged in livelihood programs, such as cash-for-work programming, agrarian interventions and financial support.

While only a small percentage of refugees from around the world get resettled to a third country each year, much can be learned from them about the services that were available to them during displacement and how those services assisted or failed to assist with integration and adjustment to their new country. In July 2007, the Women's Commission visited the International Rescue Committee's (IRC) resettlement program in San Diego, California, studying the provision of and preparation for economic opportunities for resettled refugees.
