Denmark Passes Law to Deter Refugees

Statement by Sarah Costa, Executive Director

Denmark’s new law to confiscate the assets of refugees and wait three years before they can bring family to join them is a ploy to deter refugees from seeking asylum in the country. These attempts to discourage refugees will only result in backups at already overcrowded and chaotic transit stations along the European refugee migration route and exacerbate the conditions that make women and girls especially vulnerable to attacks, exploitation and other assault.
