David Spears

David Spears is a partner in the New York City law firm of Spears & Imes LLP.  He concentrates in the areas of white collar criminal defense, SEC enforcement defense, and complex civil litigation.  Mr. Spears began his career working in government service, including at the SEC in Washington, D.C. and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.  Mr. Spears has been in private practice in New York City for many years.  In private practice, Mr. Spears has had a large number of jury trials in federal and state courts, and he has argued many cases in the United States Courts of Appeals.  Mr. Spears and his colleagues at Spears & Imes do a significant amount of pro bono work on a wide variety of matters, including, in the past, representing two inmates at Guantanamo and representing individuals referred by the WRC. 

Mr. Spears received a B.A. from Northwestern University in 1974 and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1977. He has twin daughters, Hannah and Sophie.
