Women’s Refugee Commission Responds to Trump’s Latest Refugee Ban

Washington, DC — Donald Trump’s latest Executive Order, a revision of his original refugee ban, blocks refugees from six Muslim countries and suspends the refugee resettlement program from all countries for 120 days. The Women’s Refugee Commission stands in opposition to this order, and urges the Administration to revoke such discriminatory policies.

Michelle Brané, Director of the Migrant Rights and Justice Program at the Women’s Refugee Commission responded to the Executive Order with the following statement:

“The President’s ban is un-American and discriminatory.  The most recent order, like the order that preceded compromises our obligations under international law, endangers women and children, and sets a dangerous precedent in failing to share the burden in a global refugee crisis.

While there are a few changes to the newest refugee ban, they do not lessen the damage it does to women, children, and refugees around the world. These actions are antithetical to American values. As Americans, we must not sit idly by as those in power seek to stereotype and villainize those of a certain religion or background. We urge the Administration to reconsider these reprehensible actions.”
