Humanitarian Group: Obama Administration's Immigration Funding Request Misses the Point; Urges Congress to Provide Funds to Address the Root Causes of the Crisis
We urge Congress to approve funding that provides more support to the Executive Office of Immigration Review to ensure timely and fair proceedings that includes legal representation for all children and families, and allocate funds to address root causes of the crisis through promoting the rule of law, education, protection, and youth development abroad in addition to long term reintegration programs. The Administration's enforcement and deterrence approach may only succeed in driving children fleeing violence further into the hands of traffickers and smugglers as they seek protection.
