180 Women’s Organizations call on Senate Judiciary Committee to Include Women and Family Needs in Immigration Reform Bill

Washington, DC – More than 180 women’s rights, immigrant rights, labor, faith, LGBTQ, and other organizations from across the United States have submitted a statement for the record to the Senate Judiciary Committee urging the Committee and all members of Congress to ensure that women’s priorities are at the forefront of the immigration debate and are specifically addressed in resulting legislation.

The organizations welcome the tremendous momentum around immigration reform and call on the members of the Senate Judiciary to take every necessary measure to ensure that reform is inclusive of women and families. Current policies often tear families apart, undermine access to health care and family supports, and make it harder for women immigrants to access legal pathways to citizenship. Reforms to current law must ensure that women are treated humanely and fairly, and must allow them to fully contribute to our culture, economy, and communities. Immigration policy reform cannot be considered comprehensive or effective unless it includes women and meets the needs of their families.
